About Vanceboro, Maine

Incorporated in 1874 and named after prominent local landowner William Vance, the town of Vanceboro is a remote international border community sitting at the eastern terminus of Maine State Route 6. Covering 20.1 square miles of land and home to a population of roughly 100 residents, the municipality is geographically defined by its frontier position along the rushing waters of the St. Croix River. In its heyday, Vanceboro thrived as a booming railway hub and a primary port of entry, serving as a critical junction point where the Eastern Maine Railway linked New England to Atlantic Canada. 

Today, Vanceboro is a peaceful, secluded outpost heavily tied to the surrounding wilderness. Two historic bridges, the Saint Croix–Vanceboro Bridge for vehicles and an active international railroad bridge, continue to connect the quiet village directly to St. Croix, New Brunswick. Positioned far off the beaten path, the local economy revolves around regional forestry, border security operations, and seasonal outdoor sports enthusiasts drawn to the exceptional fishing, paddling, and hunting along the historic St. Croix international waterway
