Confession time. The Community News fairy responsible for handling the logistics of publication… doesn’t exist. It broke my heart too when I realized that I was the responsible party. Being the human that I am, I struggle with a few things, like chocolate consumption and, apparently, ordering toner.
About 50 copies into printing the May 15 issue, the toner cartridge ran dry. Palm, meet forehead.
You live here. You know what this means. 1. Cry or 2. Pack a snack, clear your schedule, and get ready for a multi-hour road trip. The choice is not a real one. We don’t go through many tissues out here.
I called Levesque Office Supply, fully prepared to accept my fate and start driving.“Oh no!” she said. “Let me check. Yes, we do have one in stock. See you soon.”
Most customer service stories would have ended there. These days it is a stroke of good luck to even reach a human on the far end of a business line. Levesque, however, opted to continue the narrative. (Cue: Paul Harvey with The Rest of The Story). After the line clicked off, Levesque went right to work on my behalf.
"Phone a friend" is the other way Northern Mainers handle emergency needs, and Levesque leveraged their network for me. They tracked down a cartridge already held by another client an hour closer to me, called them up to negotiate a trade on my behalf, arranged to ship them a replacement, and shipped an extra backup to me for the future.
Wow. Just…Wow.
Putting this paper together every two weeks comes with plenty of behind-the-scenes logistical chaos, but Levesque completely turned this story around. In a world full of automated phone menus and faceless transactions, Levesque Office Supply reminded me just how much Northern Mainers still care about the human on the other side of the transaction.
